My father, Szczepan Malinowski, 66, died in Gdansk, Poland on Monday, October 3, 2005, at 2:40 in the morning of Central European Daylight Time. In the end, he did not realize how serious his condition was, and against the medical advice attended the final or the one next to the final presentation of his EU grant at a meeting in Germany. Sometimes the fine line between professional duty and personal life gets mixed up. On the other hand, his work was the only thing left for him after my mother died in the summer of 2003 even though I did my best to come as often and for as long as I could and I always brought his beloved the only grandson with me. I talked for hours over the phone every week either about the research or about physics. He was a physicist and educator by education and electrochemist by profession.
